Advisory Board - Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival

The ASBOF Advisory Board was established to support the ASBOF Board of Directors in setting policy directions for the Festival.

The Advisory Board consists of leading music educators from a range of backgrounds including wind band, big band, string, and orchestra.

Members of the Advisory Board are happy to assist Music Directors on a range of issues including:

What Festival event level to enter your ensemble
Repertoire selection
General ensemble/program advice
PD opportunities

Mark Brown

Mark is a professional musician who has been involved in music education for over twenty years, currently working at St Mary's Cathedral College. Mark has adjudicated at the ASBOF many times and can advise you about repertoire selection and all other aspects of your band program.

Garry Clark

Garry is a highly-respected name in music education, playing a central role in the development of musical talent in the Western Sydney region. Garry has previously adjudicated at the Festival and is happy to assist you with any aspect of the Primary School sections of the Festival.

Deborah Dietz

Deb is a highly experienced Music Director who has been associated with the ASBOF for over 20 years. Deb has previously adjudicated at the Festival and is willing to assist you with repertoire selection, re-scoring parts and advice on what adjudicators might be looking for in a performance.

Loreta Fin

Loreta is a highly experienced educator and adjudicator who has presented at conferences all over Australia as well as the 2007 and 2009 American String Teachers’ Association Conferences. Loreta has written over 90 publications for young string orchestras.

Dr Luke Gilmour

Luke completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is the currently working at the Shore School in Sydney. He is the former President of ABODA NSW and is happy to advise you about any aspect or your Festival entry or band program.

Steven Hillinger

Steven is heavily involved in school and community band and orchestras including North Sydney Girls High School and the University of NSW. Steven has been conducting at the ASBOF since 2003 and is happy to assist with any advice for secondary school band programs.

Jason Isaac

Jason is currently Director of Bands at Ashbury Public School, Newtown HS of the Performing Arts, Willoughby Girls HS and Director of Jazz at St Andrew's College Sydney University. Jason his happy to advise you on aspect aspect of your primary or secondary school band program.

Bec Morris

Rebeccah is a committed, dynamic, and passionate music professional and teacher, currently Director of Instrumental Music at Knox Grammar School. Bec is happy to assist you with advice on a range of music styles including percussion ensembles, big bands, concert bands and orchestras.

John Morrison

John is one of Australia’s most respected Big Band leaders and Artistic Director of the Frank Coughlan Premier Big Band Event. John will advise you on all aspects of your big band program as well as being able to provide specialist percussion advice for concert and big bands.

Katrina Papallo

Katrina is a passionate educator in the field of strings directing. Katrina is sought after for Conducting and Tutoring in a number of schools; mainly in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney, and can be met at just about any music conference event.

Gerald Steinmann

Gerald has been involved in music education in Australia for over 25 years and is the ASBOF Specialist Percussion Advisor. Gerald is a former military musician and is happy to assist with repertoire selection, arranging charts, big band and concert band programs as well as specialist percussion advice.

Paul Vickers

Paul is a highly regarded music educator and is currently the Director of Music at The Scots College. Paul has previously adjudicated for the Festival as well as conducting clinics for visiting bands. He is happy to be consulted repertoire selection or any aspect of your music performance program.
