The SBF and ABODA NSW presents the 2018 Sydney Music Conference specifically designed for Band Directors.
Designed specifically for Music Directors working with schools or community bands course participants will cover a range of topics including:
- Conducting and rehearsal techniques from beginner to advanced
- The latest in music technology
- How to sessions covering how to teach:
- How to teach Brass for the non-brass player
- How to teach Reeds for the non-reed player
- How to teach Percussion for the non-percussionist
- Big band improvisation sessions
- Repertoire choice and selecting ‘music that teaches’
Confirmed clinicians include renowned USA Music Educator, Dr Peter Boonshaft (pictured). Peter is returning to the SBF having recently been named Director of Education for Jupiter Band Instruments. He is also the co-author of Alfred Music Publishing’s beginning method series, Sound Innovations for Band. Peter is currently on the faculty of Hofstra University in Hemstead, new York and has previously served as speaker at Midwest, Maryborough and numerous international and regional music education conferences.
Monte Mumford is well known around Australia as a conductor, educator, adjudicator and clinician. Monte has been involved with the SBF for many years and was a presenter at our most recent conference held in 2013. Monte is an inspirational and experienced educator who has been involved in a range of Music Director courses around Australia.
John Morrison is one of Australia’s most well-known Jazz educators. John has been the Music Director of the Sydney Jazz Camps for over 25 years. He has been working with the SBF for many years as the Artistic Director of the Frank Coughlan Premier Big Band Event and us currently an Ambassador for instrumental music at AIM.
